We predominantly sing acappella music arranged in the barbershop style. This involves four voice parts singing in harmony, which means we welcome singers with very low voices, all the way through to higher voices. Storytelling is central to our art form, and we love to engage our audience in every performance.
The Clippers are an auditioned ensemble (which means you must pass an audition to become a full member); however, formal musical training and previous experience are not essential - just a willingness to learn, have a go, and have fun! New members are guided through the learning and audition journey, supported by your own buddy and chorus section leads and members. Although we are committed to musical excellence, not all of our members can read sheet music; we learn our songs using a combination of sheet music, learning tracks (i.e. recordings of each voice part), and by making lots of mistakes! If you can sing in tune, hold your part while singing with others, and are enthusiastic about performing for an audience, you could be a great fit for the Clippers! If you are interesting in learning to read music, this article might be a great way to get started!
If you would like to sing with us, we invite you to visit us to experience a rehearsal, or contact our membership coordinator via the details below to learn more about the process of becoming a member:
